Trouble - I Can’t (Duct Tape, 2011)

Trouble 2X really is a frightening man. Despite being the calmer party of Duct Tape’s reckless gang, that demeanor makes him even more of a threat than Alley Boy. You have no idea what’s running through Trouble’s head whenever you see him on camera, which is amazing given how openly emotional of an artist he is.

He was doing Drake influenced songs on December 17th, and though they were rare, they stood out due to the rugged nature of the rest of that mixtape. Greenlight was a far more experimental (and harmonious) effort, where Trouble sangs the chorus on more than half the project. The only one that was genuinely heartbreaking was I Can’t, a story of a girlfriend who cheated on Trouble Trouble and got caught in the act on film. The story that Trouble unravels in the song is told expertly here, and the often intimidating Trouble even sheds some tears (in the shower no less) in this video.

This wouldn’t work for most rappers, but I think it’s because of how crazy Trouble is that it really does work. We’ve all been in similar situations, and we know damn well Twubble Twubble wants to put a pistol between that girl’s head and stain the walls reds, but he’s in such a weakened state from the overwhelming feeling of betrayal and heartache. These vulnerabilities tame the beast that is Trouble, and make him even more human to his fanbase. Even if his fans would rather hear him rap about shooting that bitch (and they should).

As a huge fan of Trouble, why would I want to hear him rap about shooting a woman? Fuck outta here
