David Bazan- Wolves at the Door (Strange Negotiations/2011)
Seattle singer-songwriter David Bazan just sneaks incredibly consistent records in every couple of years (formerly recording as Pedro the Lion). His newest, Strange Negotiations, focuses lyrically on how everything is messed up around him opposed to 2009’s Curse Your Branches, which focused on how everything was messed up in his head/heart. But guess what, the man can pen a ‘the world’s a jacked up place’ jam just as well as a ‘hate myself/hate God’ jam.
This outing is just another notch in Bazan’s super solid career, as he knocks out 10 uptempo numbers, some of which sporting hooks (“Virginia,”Level With Yourself”) that could have lived on mid-90s rock radio.
